COLUMBUS, Ohio – The American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program® for excellence in nursing services has granted Nationwide Children’s Hospital ANCC Magnet Recognition® for a fourth time. This prestigious recognition is the ultimate benchmark in nursing excellence and is awarded to only about eight percent of the nation’s more than 6,000 hospitals across the country. Of that number, only seven percent has achieved designation on four occasions.
“Our nursing staff is a national leader in research and evidence-based practice, and this achievement is a testament to the team’s abilities and dedication.” said Steve Allen, MD, CEO, Nationwide Children’s Hospital. “Magnet recognition is a long, rigorous process, requiring the commitment of people throughout an institution. Our staff continues to meet the challenge and show why it is a model for providing high quality patient care.”
According to the ANCC, the leading nursing credentialing organization in the United States, ANCC Magnet Recognition is widely accepted as the gold standard of patient care. The Magnet Recognition Program recognizes excellence and professionalism in nursing. Applicants undergo an extensive evaluation, and members who are granted the esteemed status must continue to maintain rigorous standards as part of their four-year designation. To reapply for and receive ANCC Magnet Recognition for an additional four years is confirmation of the hospital’s resolve to deliver the highest level of care in nursing today.
“With this accomplishment, our patients and families are assured we are committed to always striving for the highest quality of care,” said Linda Stoverock, RN, senior vice president and chief nursing officer at Nationwide Children’s.
Nationwide Children’s was the first freestanding pediatric hospital in Ohio to earn the status by the Magnet Recognition Program in April 2005 and has sustained the status since that time with re-designations in 2009 and 2014. The latest honor will stand until 2023.
During the last four years, the Magnet Steering Committee and Magnet Champions at Nationwide Children’s worked diligently to compile the re-designation document. Submitted in October 2018, the application received a score of excellence and prepared staff for the Magnet appraisers’ three-day site visit in April 2019.
