Meet Miracle Mile Champion #11: Beau Hefner

The Nationwide Children’s Hospital Columbus Marathon and ½ Marathon is October 21st and we’re honored to be the event’s title beneficiary. As we countdown to the Marathon we’ll introduce you to our “Miracle Mile champions.” These 26 special children and teens, each with a moving story to share, will be designated a mile along the event course. They will serve as patient ambassadors – to motivate participants and engage the entire community in this vital fundraising event. Each child will have a fundraising page for their mile and many of the miles will have corporate sponsors. This week we introduce you to Beau!

Team Cayden Beau – Takin Care of Business and Beating the Cancer Bullies!
Age: 5
Hometown: Mansfield, Ohio
Condition: Pediatric Leukemia

Cayden Beau is a little boy with a big name and a serious disease. Beau (as everyone calls him) is 5 years old and has Leukemia. Having already been in treatment for a year and a half, he has an additional two years remaining on the treatment plan. Immediately following his cancer diagnosis in 2011, Beau left school and his daily life to begin treatment. Early on in the diagnosis, Beau’s parents sought a positive way to help him understand the long battle ahead. Their strategy was a great one: Beau is now the figurehead and star player of a very special Team, TCB (Team Cayden Beau) and this vast Team is working together to beat his “‘Cancer Bullies.”  The doctors and staff on the cancer floor and clinic immediately became Beau’s teammates and together they put the “playbook” (Beau’s treatment plan) in action. Team Cayden Beau is excited for his journey as a Miracle Mile Champion with the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Marathon & ½ Marathon, and looking forward to building new Teammates in the fight against the “Cancer Bullies.” Special thanks to the Columbus Dispatch and Dispatch Media Group for helping to support Beau’s mile. You will feel the bravery throughout Beau’s mile, as Team Cayden Beau cheers you to the finish line! Join Beau’s Team here.
