“Gimme an N”

If you’re driving downtown by the new hospital (it’s hard to miss) be sure to look for the letter “N” sitting alone at the top of the building’s south side. You may ask yourself what we’re up to but it’s just one another great example of why little things matter at Nationwide Children’s.

That “N” is a test letter for the monumental signage that will be installed in this location prior to the hospital opening in June. Before installing the entire sign we wanted to test one letter. And it’s a big letter! At nearly eight feet in height the letters of the logo will appear black during the day and then glow white at night. I understand from our engineers that it is a lighting technique called a “halo effect” or silhouette (you are now an expert in signage). I am really excited to see the butterflies installed. At 20-feet in diameter they will also glow at night. So keep your eyes open as we make progress toward the final hospital dedication. Grand Opening celebrations have now been set for the weekend of June 9 and the hospital will open for patients on June 20th. You can learn more about the new hospital expansion on our website.
