Behind the Scenes – Check out the view from our new Helipad
Twelve stories up…the views from the helipad atop the new hospital are spectacular. But being up here you remember the hundreds of ill and injured children that will land here each year once the new hospital opens. As Ohio’s oldest and busiest pediatric trauma center we need to be ready for any emergency. That’s why every detail mattered when designing this new helipad. From the moment medical helicopters land, it takes 264 seconds (yes, we’ve timed it to the exact second) from helipad to trauma room. A dedicated elevator is reserved to transport directly down to the Emergency Department. This improves on the transport time from our older helipad because we know every second can count. Helicopters land here year-round so the Helipad is heated to melt snow and ice. Additionally, we can land the biggest and most powerful helicopters here including a Blackhawk. In a future post we’ll take you downstairs to see inside our four new state-of-the-art trauma suites. These are places you never want to visit but it’s important to know they’re here if needed. Be sure to write and let me know about other “Behind the scenes” locations you’d like to see in your new Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
