The Real Deal: Behind the Scenes with Kristyn Hartman

You know that feeling – you meet someone for the first time and something just clicks? That’s how great partnerships and friendships are born.

I have to tell you that’s how it’s been with 10TV’s new anchor Kristyn Hartman. She is the real deal – for Nationwide Children’s and for our entire city. So how can I tell? I had the joy of watching Kristyn interact this week with one of our very special cancer patients, Nick Sawchuck and his mom. Nick is one of our Patient Champions, representing the hospital for the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Columbus Marathon. Kristyn came in on her own time to meet with Nick and sign up personally for our Children’s Champions program (Children’s Champions help raise funds for the hospital). She even brought cookies for Nick (who reports that Kristyn is in fact an outstanding baker). Here’s more on their very special visit.

I have to admit I’m a bit protective of our patients and not everyone is comfortable interacting with an ill or injured child. This wasn’t an issue for Kristyn – and for good reason – she’s been a champion for pediatric cancer programs for years. In fact, in 2006 Kristyn ran the Chicago Marathon in honor of a local pediatric cancer patient, Keegan. Although Keegan lost his battle with cancer, passing away before the Marathon, Kristyn fulfilled her promise, training and finishing the 26.2 miles in his memory. At the Columbus Marathon’s request, Kristyn has written about Keegan in some special blog postings that you can read here.

Now Kristyn has come to Columbus and she’s brought her giving spirit with her. You know how hard it is to be the new kid in town. Join me in welcoming her to Columbus and cheering her on for the Marathon.
