Labors of Love at Nationwide Children’s
Happy Labor Day – The final days of summer are here and many of us take this day as a holiday from work. I thought this would be a very appropriate time to honor and celebrate the thousands of staff at Nationwide Children’s who are working today and every day to take care of ill and injured children.
For every person directly caring for patients there are many more working behind-the-scenes to support them and keep the hospital facilities operating. And that’s a big job. With nearly 10,000 staff, Nationwide Children’s Hospital is like a small self-contained city.
So this is a salute to the staff at Nationwide Children’s – I think they’re all amazing and they view their jobs as a labor of love. No matter what the job, whether that’s a neurosurgeon, a plumber (yes, we have those), research scientist, chaplain or security officer, we’re all here because we believe in the hospital mission.
So who has the best job at Nationwide Children’s? I do have my favorite, he’s actually our only four-legged, fur-covered staffer and his name is Ansley, MD (that MD is for Medical Dog). Ansley comes to work every day with his favorite human, Speech Therapist Jennifer Lundine, to work in our rehabilitation unit. Ansley isn’t just a companion animal, he is an active member of the care team. He understands more than 50 commands and often makes a difference for patients when the human touch just isn’t enough. Here’s Ansley in action with a very special boy named Joey.
Happy Labor Day!
